This Weekend

Sunday I was asked to sub for singing time. I was so excited. I loved that calling. Josh helped me by wearing an apron, that had pockets in it with different catagories on each pocket. We loved it. We had so much fun.
Then we headed over to grandma Marys for dinner. After we ate we all headed up to visit my grandfathers grave. We have done this for 5 years. My grandma, Dad, Mom(Deanne), Pj, Kim, Bethanie, Me, Josh, little Josh, Brandon, LiliAnne,& Mary. We put flowers on his grave and and about 4 other family members that are close to him. My dad polishes each grave as we all talk about memories. This is a special time for us to remeber what a great and wonderful man our grandpa is/was. It is hard to believe that he has been gone for 5 years. I have so many great memories of him. My grandma still has a hard time. I am sure that it feels like he has been gone for a very long time. She was saying when they bought the plots, there was only a brother burried there, and now there is my grandpa, another brother and his wife. and then a brother in law. So it is getting pretty full.
Monday we went and visited Josh's Grandparents grave. That was a little harder considering that grandma Ruth has only been gone for a few months. Every year we take the kids, and we talk about memories that Josh had as a little kid. Then we went and saw Josh's Uncle's graves. This is kind of a sad time a year for Josh. He has lost a lot of people in his life.

I think that it's an awesome thing that ya'll do! It is so important to teach our children respect - not only for the living - but for our kindred dead as well. I remember very vividly while visiting Hawaii, a woman down on her hands and knees cleaning a headstone with a toothbrush. It was the neatest thing and I remember thinking what love she must have for her loved ones.
