Greed VS. Memories

For a little while now my grandma has been talking about who gets what when she dies. which is stupid, because she is going to be around for a while. Any way everybody has there say in what they want some, her daughter, gets my grandpa's piano. Which that is a whole other story. But thats how grandma wants it. This has caused some feelings in the family, major feelings. Her daughter is also named after my grandma. Their middle name is Loenza. This is a traditoin that the first daughter be named that. I think it goes back 8 or 9 generations. Any way It gets old. yeah it's cool, but when your the only other blood granddaughter sometimes it makes you feel less than.
But today as I was talking to her, I kind of got choked up. She was asking me if I wanted the china. I just said to her that I didn't care. I said you know grandma when you die this family is going to fall apart becasue everyone wants it all. I said they can have. None of them will ever have as much as I do. She kind of look confused. I said I have memories that none of them have. I see you almost every day, you were like a mom to me. You and grandpa took us on vacation, we go shopping all the time, and I get to cook with you. My kids know you better than any other great grand kid. So nothing they are going to get compares to that.
It made me feel good. I have so many memories of her and my grandpa. They were, and still are do good to me and my kids. I am so blessed that my kids got to know what wonderful people they are.
So while everyone else is fighting over all the stuff I will just smile.

GOOD FOR YOU!!!! BRAVO!!! I think that's the best thing of all - the memories! Your little family sounds a little like my extended family. They are already labeling things and she's not even gone yet - but will they lift a finger to help her, do they do what she asks - NOPE! but I do and like you - I'm just going to smile!

You are absolutely right my dear. Memories are the best - Though, can I suggest that you take LOTS and LOTS of pictures - So, the memories won't fade too much. I feel the same way about my granny. It's not about the stuff, it's about the time I got.

MISS YOU LOTS! :D
